Dear Parents, Guardians, and Staff,
In accordance with Act 44 of 2025, a new Pennsylvania law, school districts are required to notify parents/guardians and staff within 24 hours of any incident involving the possession of a weapon on school property, during school-sponsored activities, or on school transportation. This notification is required even when a threat assessment determines there is no active or ongoing threat to students or staff.
This notice is to inform you that on March 31, 2026 at the Sharpsville Elementary School a weapon was found on the floor of school property in violation of applicable law and District policy 218.1. In accordance with District policy 218.1, a weapon shall include any tool, instrument, or implement capable of inflicting serious bodily injury.
A knife was found on school property. This weapon fell out of a student’s bookbag. The student made no threats, and the matter was handled without incident.
The investigation determined the following:
- The weapon was found on the ground of school property. The weapon was seen falling out of a student’s bookbag on camera surveillance.
- The weapon was not used to threaten or harm any individuals.
- The Sharpsville School District SRO immediately confiscated and secured the item from the grounds.
The situation was addressed promptly and in accordance with school safety procedures. There was no threat made on any students or staff. Please note that, consistent with privacy laws, no personally identifiable information about students may be shared.
