Frequently Asked Questions during COVID-19 School Closure


  1. How long will the school closure last?

    1. Governor Wolf announced on April 9 that all schools will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

  2. How do I get the most updated information ?

    1. The best places to get the most accurate information are the school district website, school district app, school district Facebook page, and the instant connect telephone messaging system. 

  3. Will we still have to take PSSA, PASA, NOCTI, or Keystone Exams?

    1. No, the state has cancelled ALL standardized exams for this school year.

  4. Will students have to take the Keystone subject specific tests that they did not take this year?

    1. The Pennsylvania Department of Education will give future guidance at some point in the future. 

  5. Will students graduate or be promoted to the grade level?

    1. Yes, provided that students meet the criteria for graduation or promotion to the next grade level.

  6. What is the best way to contact a staff member of the District?

    1. Email is the best way to contact our staff at this time.  Please go to our website to find a directory of email. This can be found in the schools tab under Staff Directory.

  7. When is the end of the third nine weeks?

    1. The end of the third nine week grading period was March 13.    The fourth nine week grading period began on March 16. Grades for the third week can be found in the parental portal.

  8. What if I have a problem with my technology?

    1. Please go to our website to the FOR STUDENTS SECTION, then click on Quick Links, and then click on Tech Support.

  9. Will SASD still provide meals for families during the school closure?  

    1. Yes, meals are delivered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to the Sharpsville Gardens and St. Bartholomeus. 

  10. What steps should I take if I have questions regarding my student’s IEP?

    1.  Contact your child’s principal via email or Mr. Scott McCaskey,  our Supervisor of Special Education , at [email protected]  

  11. Will the school year be extended?

    1. No.  Act 13 of 2020 waives the 180-day requirement for schools.  Because SASD has enacted a “Continuity of Education Plan”, our district is meeting the requirements for a qualified school year completion.  SASD will continue to follow the school calendar with the last day of school scheduled for June 9.

  12. Can the playgrounds on school property remain open for use?

    1. No, ALL school facilities are closed in an effort to keep our students, families, and community safe and healthy.

    2. The PIAA has cancelled all athletic activities through June 30.

  13. What will happen with events like the prom and graduation?

    1. At this point, these events are postponed.  

    2. More details will follow as the CDC, Department of Health, and the Governor Wolf  update expectations around social distancing.

    3. There is a possibility that graduation may take place sometime in June or July depending on the status of the COVID 19 restrictions.   

  14. How will students get their belongings that are still at their school?

    1. We will have designated times for students to come clean out lockers and get their belongings once the Stay at Home Order restrictions are no longer in place.
