PennSERVE

What is PennSERVE:
And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you--ask what you can do for your country"- President John F. Kennedy
"Everybody can be great because everybody can serve"--Dr. Martin Luther King
In 1988, on the 25th anniversary of the death of President Kennedy, Governor Robert P. Casey established the Governor's Office of Citizen Service, called PennSERVE, to rekindle the Kennedy-era spirit of community service. PennSERVE's mission is to inspire all Pennsylvania citizens to engage in some form of community service. Although people of all ages volunteer, our emphasis is on the young.
At Sharpsville High School, we encourage our students to complete community service hours because it benefits both the student and the community. Through volunteering, students can connect with others and learn problem solving skills, while achieving a sense of pride and accomplishment at the task they completed.
PennSERVE awards are limited to seniors only.
Community service graduation requirement hours can also count for PennSERVE hour awards.
PennSERVE hours performed during school hours do not meet the graduation requirement.
PennSERVE AWARDS: Students receive community service awards on Awards Day for their Senior year. Community service hours are important for college applications, scholarships, and job references.
Certificates are awarded for 16-49 hours.
Certificates are awarded for 50-99 hours.
Certificates are awarded for 100 hours or more.
